Can I wish everybody a very happy Christmas and a great new year, and thanks for all the kind comments. Working on Ruyton has been an extremely positive experience.

A couple of photos showing progress with the Cambrian 4 wheeler. Buffers, axle boxes fitted and a roof. Still a need for oil lamps which need to be sourced and screw couplings, before painting.

Wow! Over 6 months since the last posting, so a quick update regarding some work in progres.

The first is basically a ready to run placeholder, one of the Hattons later Rails of Sheffield generic 4 wheel coaches. Straight out of the box and waiting some repainting and weathering. More on the brake van below.

The passenger brake is ex North London Railway as modified by the S&MR, ie the birdcage was removed. It is a much modified London Road Models kit.

1907 RCH Acid Tank from a Taff Vale Models kit. Was a spontaneous purchase at the last SWAG show at Taunton. I have no evidence that one found its way to the SfMR but I like it. I blame a certain Mr Brandreth for drawing my attention to it!

Hecate which was one of the three Terriers that found their way to Kinnerley. The kit is Albion Models and is a nice build albeit progress is slow!

Can never have enough wagons that are probably not needed!
I like the ex North London Railway passenger brake. I seem to be collecting more coaches than I really need.

Every light railway needs at least one North London vehicle: everyone had them! The brake is a nice kit, I've got one somewhere and really enjoyed it. No pressing use or need for it, but (especially with the birdcage), it's a handsome thing.

Well after the event but a few photos of Ruyton Road at Scaleforum a few weeks ago. Incudes a special appearance by Bodium from the Kent and East Sussex. Lovely Terrier scrachbuilt by Robin Gay for his Rolvenden layout which just happened to be very adjacent. The Adams was a very sudden impetuous purchase from the Bring & Buy which was dangerously close, I have no idea what I’m going to do with it but it’s a lovely engine and at the price I couldn’t resist! Overall it was a cracking friendly weekend.

Fab photos, @PaulRhB and @Marc Dobson, this is such a great layout.

And who could resist such a lovely Adams Radial? Maybe an EKR makeover and then on loan between two Stevens operations?

Cheers,
Mark

The Radial is indeed lovely. The paint finish is superb and I believe undertaken by our own @LarryG so there will be no new identity. There will still be some story as soon as I make it up

How was the acid tank? I’m sort of tempted, but without any lettering being available (and given that they had such a lot), I’ve managed to contain myself.

Hi Adam,

The kit was a very strait forward and speedy build. It goes together very well and in the absence of suitable transfers I decided to just paint black and weather. There are very few pictures of any tank wagons on the S&M in the 20’s and even then you can’t make out any particular markings. Cue somebody finding one! It is small which fits my criteria for wagons on Ruyton.

Regards Paul

. . . without any lettering being available (and given that they had such a lot), I’ve managed to contain myself.
I know a modeller in S Wales who paints wagon bodies (or relevant parts) the colour of the lettering. He then makes a transfer the colour for the whole body with the letters transparent - a large transfer. When applied, the coloured lettering comes through. It takes a bit of planning but the results are very good.
